However having stated that, it would always be more agreeable to be on the loose side rather than tighter side but as long as within the specific range, I wouldn't adjust, but keep an eye on the tighter spec'd valve (s) at normal maintenance timing.

WebJan 24, 2014 · Valves - the manual is probably correct. My R is a hexhead rather than a camhead like yours. It is a simple procedure to check the valves on either bike so why not develop a track record and see what is needed. My hexhead calls for checking every 6k. I'm at 40K miles and have had to make one minor adjustment to one valve in all those miles.

The semi-sphere adjustment system is better than the threaded adjuster system IMO. I had the dealer check the valve clearance at each scheduled service interval.
